We spent just over a week in Parkham at the end of January and experienced some cold and windy weather as well as the occasional hailstorm. Had never appreciated how painful hail can be be until we experienced a storm blowing in from the sea as we walked along Westward Ho! beach. We were both glad to get back to the shelter of the car.
Spent a pleasant evening with the Rotary Club of Torrington where it was interesting to learn about the plans of the Tarka Valley Railway Group to restore the railway line between Torrington and Bideford. Unfortunately it is likely to be a long time before this becomes a reality and there are a lot hurdles to jump, let alone rivers to cross!
Had a few problems with the central heating boiler but luckily managed to keep the heat on all week and repairs were completed before we headed home. Returned to the Midlands to an extremely cold house (despite having left heating on low) which took several hours to get back to a reasonable temperature
