A Parkham New Year

After a Midlands Christmas with family it was down the M5  for a New Year in Devon.
Heating was turned up and soon The Granary was feeling very warm and cosy.
Monday was a good day to arrive as we were able to meet up with friends that evening in the pub -  or at least I was while Hil settled in to her book and prepared a meal!
On Tuesday our very good friends and neighbours arrived loaded with food for our meal on New Year's Eve, they had a an hour or so before we were off to a 60th birthday to which we had all been invited, despite the hosts never having met Tom and Carol, there's Devon hospitality for you.
Great party despite Hil stabbing the birthday boy in the foot when she  dropped a knife (or was it a fork) -  that will teach him go around barefoot.
New Year's Eve was spent walking around the village then down to Greencliff where we surprised to see surfers lugging there boards down the muddy track to the beach.
The evening involved a visit to the pub where we met up again with friends from the party before Tom prepared our salmon supper -  sparklers followed the crackers.

After the meal we played charades,  I was particularly proud of my Brad Pitt.  We desperately attempted to keep going until midnight by playing Scrabble but seemed unable for some reason to get beyond three letter words.  We all made it with only a little dozing and then were happy after a quick celebration with Jules Holland to get to our beds.

After a late start on New Year's Day  and a short walk it was back to the pub at midday  for another Parkham tradition, the New Year's Day Brunch -  Again the pub was full as we all sat down to  our full English along with bubble and squeak.

The rest of the break was a slow preparation for our return to the Midlands with Tom and Carol leaving on the 2nd and we followed on the 4th.  We did however manage to get in a quick trip to Rosemoor where it was good to see the the first snowdrops in flower.  We also caught up with other good friends for tea and scones and were lucky enough to be present for the debut of the 'Useless Box' a Christmas gift which had been painstakingly assembled (Look it up on Google).

All in all a fantastic New Year following a great Christmas.
