The cottage is now in a pretty good state and we have been pleased to entertain more friends and family on our visits. There is still routine maintenance to be done and we have also put a few more containers and plants in the garden. Last year we installed a ventilation system which constantly blows air from the loft into the building, displacing the potentially damp air in the lower rooms and this has made the whole building feel and smell much fresher.
I did notice on a rainy day that water from the pub car park was landing at the front corner of our building and disappearing into a crack in the concrete channel, rather than draining away onto the road. This was causing some dampness on the front wall. I have managed to temporarily divert the water but potentially need to extend the drain closer to the road, a job for next time!
In May we visited an arts trail in the Bideford area and saw some fantastic pieces. We bought a painting for the lounge which shows the view from the Skern near Appledore acrosss to Instow.

| Not a very good photo, but gives an impression of the painting! |
We have also done more exploration of the coast path and have discovered even more amazing views and walks.

There is some much to do and enjoy in this part of North Devon that I am sure we will never be bored!
